Someone who'll tell you the truth when you don't want to hear it. Cry with you when you hurt, laugh with you when you're happy. Pick you up when you're drunk or lie in the gutter with you until you sober up. Someone who doesn't play on your emotions but makes you emotional. Someone who believes a seven second hug is good medicine. There's more but . . I'll spare you.
Someone who'll go the extra mile, or two, or 47. Someone who knows how badly you need that $100, so he/she borrows it and gives it to you two days before his/her phone's turned off. Someone who only reminds you of all the dumb shit you've done in order to make you laugh when you need to laugh, but never to throw it in your face when angry. Someone who'll sleep next to you and hold you -- we're assuming you're of the opposite sex in this example -- because you can't bear to be alone tonight, and not because they're hoping to "get lucky." Someone who'll pass up his or her much-needed sleep because you need someone to talk to. Someone who'd take your pain -- literal or figurative -- unto himself/herself if only that were possible. Someone who's never met you offline, but gives their private email address or phone number, "just in case." Someone who'll let you fight your own battles because you're so damned independent, but stands behind you in case you've bitten off more than you can chew. Someone who has a higher opinion of you than you do of yourself, even though he/she knows so much -- too much? -- about the real you.

someone who loves you enough to be around you in spite of you...
Good question. I agree with Brian and would add to that...and who focuses on your assets, accepting your flaws as part of who you are.
I would take either one of you as friends. :)
I agree with these comments but would add someone who makes you happy and whom you make happy, too.

I'm not always a very good friend. But I'm constantly trying to be a better one.

You all are way cool. I'd just be proud to have any of you for a real-life friend.
You do, kiddo. Or didn't you realize that?
